I’m not feeling quite as curious about the thoughts of trump voters because they certainly don’t seem to be very curious about ours. Democrats are consistently advised to moderate their words, to try to understand the opposition. I have never seen an article that encourages Republicans to do the same except in a vague “bringing the country together” kind of way. But your thoughts are worth pondering.
Thanks for your thoughts Meg. I have to admit, I don't consume any Republican-slanting media (I've wondered if I should just to consider both sides, for matters of policy at least) so that is really interesting to hear. And infuriating because shouldn't empathy be non-political!!?? Gah.
The grief and disappointment I felt the night of the election, the day after, and even still runs deep. It feels like a massive step backward when we could have made progress – we could have made history. It's really hard to reckon with.
I feel you. 🤍 I visited family over the weekend which was a healing distraction. But now I’m in it again consuming content about it to try to find comfort and figure out how to feel better/less powerless.
I think we have to allow ourselves time to be angry. I don’t think it’s right to shame other people but in safe places we need a beat to let that anger out. I am jealous that your close friends and family are on your side politically! My family is divided and it really kills me 🥺
Oh I'm so sorry to hear that Brenna—I can only imagine how that must feel. 💙 I'm sure it's a lot easier to sit over here and have this point-of-view when my family isn't at stake.
Totally agree with you on feeling the anger. Grief is a process. I hope being abroad is helping give you that safe place.
Hugs ❤️

I too hope I see the day that a woman is the president of the United States of America.
