Happy Substack-iversary!! It’s been a true joy to read your work each week and connect with you in the comments. Your posts are always so thought-provoking and have the best podcast and book recs. I haven’t read that article you mentioned (and now I’m kind of scared to 🙈), but I’m glad you’re taking an objective view. Our inner critics are already loud enough. (And though that article’s author likely wouldn’t approve, I, for one, would read a round up post from you, especially of the things you read/listen to!)
Aw this is such nice feedback, I’m honored! I don’t necessarily plan to drop book and podcast recs (they naturally come out of me when I’m writing haha) so that’s great to hear. Annnnd already planning a books round-up for the end of the year 😉
I’m going to try and channel your fired up energy moving forward! The piece left me self conscious and publishing shy. I’ve got so many drafts but am spending so much time tweaking and perfecting now. Thanks for sharing your reaction!
Thanks for reading, Lindsey, and glad to hear it resonated! That's great that you've got a pile of drafts - I am trying to work at that so I have more content to pull from each week rather than scrambling to think of a topic last minute. That said, I still spend a lot of time editing myself...I have to remind myself that 'Done is better than perfect.'
Yay happy one year! Love your writing! Thanks for the shoutout. 😊 I love the idea of finding my why. It has changed so much since I started.
I think it’s ok to write listicles and share links. Sometimes I like reading that stuff! And sometimes it’s fun to read other people’s diaries to connect to them. I allow myself the pleasure of reading and writing varied content.
“hit articles” on Substack do have commonalities and if your goal was only growing your audience you could just write those. It comes down to your “why” like you said!
Thank you so much Brenna! Your evolution (both on and off Substack) is such an inspiration to me. So I’m curious to see how my ‘why’ changes.
And totally agree with you! I think diversity of content is so valuable. When it comes to link-sharing Platonic Love is doing such a good job. I find link round-ups a lot more interesting when the author includes commentary as opposed to a straight-up list.
Appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the matter!
Happy anniversary! I too have to hold tight to my "why" for writing (which varies depending on where and who I'm writing for, of course!). Also, I was at Chelsea and Kimberly's Creative Mornings talk, too!
Thank you so much, Jenna! Happy to have connected on here. :) and omgosh I could’ve sworn I saw you there but then lost you—I had forgotten about that! Do you go to the CM talks often? What’d you think of their talk?
I really enjoyed it! I love conversations about the mindset work required to show up consistently as a writer — or to do anything we desire, really. Hearing about that through the lens of their individual experiences (and successes) was really fun for me ☺️ And I do try to go to the CM talks often! I won’t be there this month because my mom will be visiting from out of town, but whenever I’m available, I’m there!
Glad to hear it! I'm trying to go more regularly - that talk was my 2nd this year after not having gone since pre-pandemic. I'll keep an eye out for you at future ones! :) Enjoy your visit with your mom.

I love that they come naturally, that's I think what makes them so great! Oooo I am already looking forward to your book round-up!!
Yes totally agree here!
This is definitely something I'm going to chew on: “Are link round-ups dopamine hits?” Woah! This is a wonderful piece, Morganne!
Ahh thank you so much Aoife 🤗
